Investigating Factors Influencing Rolling Shear Performance of Australian CLT Feedstock

This paper presents an investigation on the influence of various factors rolling shear (RS) properties timber feedstock for cross laminated (CLT) available from Australian plantation forest resources. Comparison RS between three softwood species namely southern pine, radiata pine and hoop are presented. Furthermore, effect modulus elasticity (MOE), equilibrium moisture content (EMC), aspect ratio, knots projection length behaviour were investigated. Mean samples 74.7 MPa, 87.1 MPa 99.7 whilst strength those 2.6 3.1 3.7 respectively. Radiata exhibited lowest values strength, almost 30% less than samples. The study confirmed that density MOE had a very weak correlation with all species. There was obvious decrease in (by 18%) when woods’ conditioned EMC changed 8% to 12%. A further 33% observed increased 12% 16%. However, percentage increase found be 23% higher wood while compared against 16% EMC. improved ratio; however, remained unaffected.
